We completed a welder repair for Freeman Enclosure System of Batavia, Ohio. We removed sheet metal and conducted pre-power checks. We connected power and have max output, balance 3-phase AC, variable speed on the motor, knob for speed adjustment is very difficult to rotate compared to the volt adjustment knob. Client had to use channel lock pliers to rotate knob. We wanted to get a better look at the board and started to disassemble and found that the friction connector was loose, which could cause output issues since feedback is at the connector. Capacitors’ leads were discolored. The Ethernet port was bent on the display board. Removed bezel to access output terminals, bulk head was broken into pieces, housing section in front panel was deformed. Twist lock receptacle heat damage. Warranty claim was submitted since this machine was still within that window, claim was approved and parts were sent. Installed new parts and assembled welder. Connected to power and needed a software update. Browsed “Miller Welds” inserted a blank USB to the computer, uploaded software and then transferred the USB to the welder. The welder accepted the file and installed software. After testing and re-assembling the welder was working properly, the customer was contacted.
